According to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, Greg Oden’s doctors told him to be a regular person and quit professional basketball in 2012 after surgery.

"“After that surgery in 2012, my last surgery, the doctor said, ‘Just be a regular person, go live life. Be a regular person. You would be perfectly fine walking out of this place and not have to worry about any rehab or anything.’ And I did, and then two weeks later, I was stuck on NBA TV. That’s just what I watch every day. I turn on TV and I’m watching NBA TV. I just wanted to play basketball. That’s my love; that’s what I wanted to do.” Oden told the Sun-Sentinel"

The 7 foot 275 pound 25 year old Miami Heat center was out of basketball since December of 2009. With all the surgeries Oden has had in his career, will take a toll on him as he continues to get older. Sometimes doctors are right, knowing how his size already takes a toll on him, after the injuries and surgeries he has had, it’s not going to get any easier.

But how can you convince a person who is passionate about what they do, to walk away? I mean, he couldn’t pass up playing with Dwayne Wade and LeBron James.

Now he has a very good chance to win a championship. I say if the Miami Heat do in fact three-peat this season and Oden gets a ring, he needs to call it a career.
