The Boston Red Sox have been without pitcher Clay Buchholz since June 8 and is currently on the 60-day disabled list because of a shoulder injury.

Prior to the injury, Buchholz was having his finest year as a professional. He is currently 9-0 with a 1.71 ERA, 81 strikeouts, and just 29 walks. He’s given up only 57 hits, had a WAR of 3.9 and a WHIP of 1.02 in 84.1 innings. He looked like a favorite for the Cy Young Award and appeared to be one of the main reasons the Red Sox have bounced back in such a big way this season.

Despite Buchholz’s absence, the Red Sox have the American League East and entered Wednesday in a tie with the Tampa Bay Rays for first place in the division.

According to Scott Lauber of the Boston Herald, the Red Sox could be getting some good news regarding Buchholz.

Lauber reports Buchholz threw 46 pitches in a four-inning simulated game in San Francisco Wednesday, pointing out Buchholz pitches to right-handed hitters David Ross, Mike Napoli and Xander Bogaerts and “threw his full repertoire of pitches.”

Getting Buchholz back soon would be huge news for a team that has struggled since the All Star break and has lost eight of their last 12 games.
