There was never any real doubt that the Washington Redskins would begin the 2013-14 NFL season with Robert Griffin III under center, but it was finally confirmed today. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Redskins star quarterback was given clearance to start in the season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football.

Griffin had been hoping to get some reps in during the preseason, but the team was as cautious as they could be at the time.

It still seems a little soon for Griffin to be back on the field, but as long as there is medical clearance it is the right move for the team. Hopefully it is not too risky.

The most important part of Griffin’s return will be to see how he reacts to getting hit.

It will also be interesting to see if Griffin is more cautious when he takes the field. The Redskins have urged him to cut back on scrambling, but you can never take away a players instincts. Let’s just hope Griffin can protect himself.
