The New England Patriots finish out their preseason on Thursday night against the New York Giants, but there is one familiar face that will not be available. In an announcement that really surprises no one, the team has stated that quarterback Tom Brady will not be playing in the preseason finale.

Teams rarely play their star players as the preseason comes to an end in order to prevent any catastrophic injury that would doom the team for the regular season — especially the quarterback.

When you are resting many starters, there is no reason to place your starting quarterback on the field. Without the full protection from his starting line up, there is an increased risk of losing your star signal-caller to an unfortunate injury. New England definitely wouldn’t want that to happen because it would mean Tim Tebow makes the final roster.

According to Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald, Brady won’t be the only starter sitting on the sidelines.

Howe says that “many key starters” won’t play for the team against the Giants.
