The Cincinnati Bengals drafted Notre Dame tight end Tyler Eifert in the first round of the 2013 NFL Draft. Reports of his performance camp have been positive and paint a picture of him being an integral part of the Bengals offensive plans in the upcoming season.

From the Cincinnati Enquirer:

"“Tyler Eifert looked spectacular during training camp practices, but ended up missing the third and fourth preseason games with an undisclosed ailment.”"

“He’s still a rookie,” offensive coordinator Jay Gruden said. “He needs reps. It is a concern. Rookies make rookie mistakes and we have to make sure we minimize those mistakes. But we’ll see how in a game situation how he does.”

The Bengals also have Jermaine Gresham at tight end as well so too much won’t be put on Eifert’s plate all at once. He’ll be eased into the season. The Bengals are looking to use two tight end plays like the New England Patriots used with Aaron Hernandez and Rob Gronkowski.

Eifert is still has a lingering minor wrist injury from the third preseason games.
