Updated statement from Detroit Lions on WR Nate Burleson

The Detroit Lions are 2-1 and looking to rebound from a disastrous 2012 campaign, but they’ll have to go the rest of their season without their 2nd-best receiving threat, as wide receiver Nate Burleson was injured in a car crash early this morning, and will require surgery on his arm that could end his season after breaking his arm in two places

“Lions wide receiver Nate Burleson was involved in a one car accident overnight. Burleson suffered a broken arm and will undergo surgery Wednesday. Police confirm there was no alcohol involved.”

“We will provide appropriate updates when more information on Burleson’s condition becomes available.”

Lions Head Coach Jim Schwartz stopped short of writing off the rest of Burleson’s season:

“It’s not an emergency surgery,” Schwartz said. “Nate’ll be back at some point, and when he will, he will be a big contributor again to our team.”

“It’s tough,” quarterback Matthew Stafford said. “Obviously Nate had a great game last game. He’s been a big part of our team since he’s been here.”
