On the same week that San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Quinton Patton hauled in the first regular season catch of his career, the rookie wideout has suffered a foot injury that will keep him on the sidelines for a significant amount of time.

According to reports, Patton suffered a broken metatarsal bone on the same play that he recorded the catch during Thursday night’s win over the St. Louis Rams.

It is the second fracture for Patton this season. During training camp, the fourth-round pick out of Louisiana Tech was forced to overcome a broken finger.

There is good news for Patton, however.

49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh said that the team will continue to carry the first-year wide receiver on the 53-man roster rather than place him on the injured reserve list. Patton is not eligible for injured reserve with designation for return because the team has already used that roster exemption on rookie linebacker Nick Moody.

While the team is without Patton, they will need to find another wide receiver to step up and fill his void on the depth chart.
