When the Minnesota Vikings signed Josh Freeman, it seemed clear that the Christian Ponder era was coming to an end. Now that Freeman has been named the starting quarterback in Minnesota it is clear. So what to do with Christian Ponder, he could ask for his release or a trade, or he could even ride out his contract as a back up.

Ponder was asked if he’d welcome a trade, he didn’t have a clear answer.

“I don’t know,” he said, via Chip Scoggins of The Star Tribune.

“Again, I have to figure out what’s best for me and everything and for this team,” Ponder said Wednesday, per the St. Paul Pioneer Press. “I don’t know if that’s staying here or going somewhere else.”

Even without the signing of Josh Freeman, Ponder’s days could have been numbered in Minnesota. When Ponder suffered a rib injury back up Matt Cassel was brought in to start in his place. In two starts this season, Cassel has completed 69.6% of his passes for 489 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions. He has also guided them to their first win of the season.
