The Los Angeles Lakers will get their regular season underway Tuesday night when they host the Los Angeles Clippers.

According to Mike Trudell of Lakers.com and TWC SportsNet, the Lakers will start Steve Nash, Steve Blake, Nick Young, Shawne Williams and Pau Gasol.

Not exactly an all-star cast. Especially when last year’s healthy lineup had Kobe Bryant and Dwight Howard in it.

Last season, Nash was limited to 50 games and averaged just 12.7 points and 6.7 assists per game. The 39-year old point guard enters this season with a neck injury and is listed as “day-to-day.”

Blake is a very solid backup point guard, but as a starting shooting guard, he is undersized and overmatched. Defending opposing wings is going to be quite the challenge. Blake averaged 7.3 points and 3.8 assists per game last season.

Nick Young, a local product out of Southern Cal, joined the Lakers after spending last season with the Philadelphia 76ers. He averaged 10.6 points per game last season.

Gasol, a former all-star, was a given. The big man out of Spain had a down year last season, averaging 13.7 points, 8.6 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game.

Shawne Williams is the major surprise. The fifth-year pro out of Memphis didn’t appear in a game last season. The 17th overall pick of the 2006 draft has averaged 5.7 points per game in his career.

The Lakers and Clippers will tip at 10:30 pm EST and the game is on TNT.
