Tim Hudson will surely be a Hall of Fame pitcher, but you can argue if he’ll be inducted when he’s first eligible or not.

The 38 year old right handed starting pitcher who has spent time with the Oakland Athletics (1999-2004) and the Atlanta Braves (2005-20013) filed for free agency with six other Braves yesterday.

Guys like Brian McCann, Paul Maholm, Freddy Garcia, Eric O’Flaherty are looking to possibly get long-term deals that include a decent salary, if not a big one.

Hudson has been in the league for awhile now and is going into the off-season from a year that involved a fractured fibula and a ruptured deltoid ligament. He’s expected to be healthy by the time Spring Training rolls around, so I don’t think he’ll have any trouble finding a long term deal during the Winter.

Now what exactly is long-term for a guy who is 38 years old? Well according to Sportsnet.ca and Hudson’s agent, he says he hopes to play at least two or three more seasons. The deal he could get could be around three years with an additional option to see if he’ll stick around for another season.

But I think he’ll end up getting some two year offers. Not sure if Atlanta will just let him walk away like that, as they should be interested in re-signing him.

This season Hudson posted a 3.97 ERA with a 95/36 K/BB ratio through 131 1/3 innings of work this season. He had surgery in late July.
