It was expected that the New York Jets would be moving on from former first-round pick Mark Sanchez in the offseason by cutting him loose after handing the offense to rookie signal-caller Geno Smith this season, but Sanchez may have some other plans.

When speaking to the media today, Sanchez said that he expects to return to the Jets in 2014 and he wouldn’t want to play for any other team.

From Brian Costello of the New York Post:

Sanchez had a good shot at retaining the starting role entering the season before getting hurt at the end of the preseason, so it is possible that he still believes he can regain the starting gig over Smith — especially after watching the rookie’s recent struggles.

If Sanchez can get healthy entering the offseason and the Jets decide to hang on to him for another year, we could be set up for another quarterback competition in New York.
