Word on the street right now ladies and gentlemen is that the New York Yankees are close to signing free agent utility man Kelly Johnson.

Now if the Yankees are actually able to pull off this signing, it would be an amazing pick up. This team is going to have to figure out who will play third base with Alex Rodriguez facing his suspension.

Johnson could also be New York’s second option at second base if they happen to let Robinson Cano slip away to some other team.

In his seven year career, Johnson has played at left field, second base, first base and third base. He could even give shortstop a short if something were to happen to Derek Jeter.

He’s a career 1.000 fielder at first base, .982 at second base, .978 at third base and .988 in left field. Johnson spent 809 total games at second base.

In his only season with the Tampa Bay Rays, he hit 16 home runs with 52 RBI’s on a batting line of .235/.305/.410 across the line.

Johnson may not have Robinson Cano’s power, but he’s still a great all around player.

What do you think Yankee fans, is this a good call?
