The Chicago Bears are having one of their best offensive seasons in a very long time thanks to two quarterbacks who could be fighting for the starting job next year.

That’s right, with Jay Cutler in the final year of his contract, the Chicago Bears could be weighing their options once their season is over. You have to take a look at the numbers for both Cutler and Josh McCown.

Jay Cutler started off the year as Chicago’s starting quarterback. Before Jay missed a couple games with that high ankle sprain, he appeared in eight games. He recorded 1,908 passing yards, 13 touchdowns and eight interceptions with a quarterback rating of 88.4.

Josh McCown, who did a beautiful job answering the call when Cutler went down, put up some amazing numbers himself. In seven games with the Bears this year, McCown has recorded 1,809 passing yards, 13 touchdowns and one interception with a quarterback rating of 109.8.

Cutler may be able to return to the starting lineup for the Chicago Cubs as they take on the Cleveland Browns on Sunday. It’s an away game and this Browns team happens to have one of the best all around and physical defenses in the league. Something that could end up putting Cutler back on the shelf.

I knew myself that Cutler should have taken an extra game off instead of rushing back from that groin surgery a couple weeks ago. As a Bears fan, I wasn’t worried about McCown and his ability to run this offense. But I do want Cutler to remain the starting quarterback for this team.

Either way, these wide receivers can make any quarterback look good.

According to Bear Heiser on Twitter, Jay Cutler returned to practice once again and didn’t appear to be favoring that ankle he has had problems with over the last couple of weeks.

So who do you think should remain the starting quarterback for the remainder of the year? And who should the Bears keep as the starter going into the 2014 season and beyond?
