The day before the Buffalo Bills took the field in Week 15 against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Bills wide receiver Stevie Johnson learned that his mother had passed away unexpectedly. Johnson decided to stay with his team and play a day after receiving the news, but now he is not expected to take the field one week later.

Johnson rejoined his family this week to begin the grieving process and Bills head coach Doug Marrone said that it is unlikely his wide receiver will be available this coming Sunday.

“I don’t believe that he will be available for our game on Sunday and I think it’s important we realize this tragedy, and our thoughts and our prayers are with Stevie and his family,” Marrone said, via the Buffalo News.

While the Bills would love to have Johnson out on the field to help out rookie quarterback E.J. Manuel, you can’t blame a guy for taking as much time as he needs to deal with the loss of a loved one.

Buffalo plays host to the Miami Dolphins at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday afternoon.
