After a tremendous start to the season by head coach Fred Hoiberg and the Iowa State Cyclones, they’re undefeated no more as they dropped their first contest of the season on Saturday to Lon Kruger and the surging Oklahoma Sooners, 87-82.

Iowa State didn’t go down without a fight, however.

The game was tied at the break at 39 apiece, and then it was back and forth from there with the teams trading buckets down the stretch, which ultimately ended up in Oklahoma taking the 48-43 advantage in the final 20 minutes to get the win.

Star guard DeAndre Kane led the Cyclones once again as he dropped in 23 points and grabbed nine rebounds on the afternon, but unfortunately, he left the game in the second half with an injury and retreated to the locker room.

But on this day, it was the Sooners’ turn to grab the spotlight. After giving the Kansas Jayhawks a fight in their last outing, they came out on Saturday against a Top 10 team and got the job done.

The Sooners were led by guard Buddy Hield who racked up 22 points and added five rebounds. Four other Oklahoma players finished in double figures, to give Kruger another win as the Sooners head man.

With the win, Oklahoma now improves to 13-3 on the season, while Iowa State drops to 14-1.
