The Detroit Lions were side-by-side with Denver Broncos fans last night in hoping the San Diego Chargers would be eliminated from the postseason. It was mutually beneficial in that the Broncos would be moving on in the AFC Playoffs and the Chargers would be out, something that would then allow the Lions to hire offensive coordinator Ken Wisenhunt as their next head coach.

But while it appears obvious that the Lions are targeting Whisenhunt, ESPN insider Adam Schefter is urging fans to pump the brakes on the Whisenhunt to Detroit rumors and insists that the Tennessee Titans could be a wild card option in this whole mess.

While nothing is imminent, Schefter tweeted out that the Titans interesting Whisenhunt is very real, which means hiring him before the Lions can is real as well.

This was also backed up by NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport as well as Titans beat writer Jim Wyatt. Should the Lions lose out on Whisenhunt, it would mark the second time this offseason they’ve missed on a head coach they covet. Lovie Smith was hired in Tampa Bay before the Lions could get to him and despite being linked to Whisenhunt a lot over the weekend, the Lions may end up losing out on him as well.
