All-Joe team celebrates NFL’s unsung heroes

In an effort to recognize the unsung heroes of the NFL, USA TODAY Sports recently announced its’ All-Joe team for the 22nd year.

The All-Joe team consists of a 53-man roster, and has at least one representative from every NFL team. Only players who have never been named to the Pro Bowl are eligible. Not coincidentally, the Denver Broncos and the Seattle Seahawks share the All-Joe team lead with four selections apiece.

The All-Joe team was created in 1992 by NFL writer Larry Weisman as a tribute to Joe Phillips, a 14-year defensive lineman who did the dirty work in the trenches for the Kansas City Chiefs.

  • Al Martin

First Keenan Lewis of the Saints gets snubbed by the Pro Bowl voters and now he doesnt make it on the All Joe team!

  • Rees Britton

Anyone that gives Matt Flynn any kind of award should be slapped!

    • ScottSummers

      Why?

      • Rees Britton

DId you watch the 2013 season at all? Do you remember the Raider or the bills debacle? Who did he beat??? The cowboys and the falcons… WOW that deserves praise, well other then not being able to beat out Pryor or start a game for the bills or to beat anyone even somewhat relevant. Great pick, if you are looking to lose!

        • ScottSummers

You’re being a little too harsh. The Bills and Raiders failed to make the playoffs so they obviously have problems bigger than qb. Also, they both opted for a younger, more athletic quarterback.

If anything Flynn should get an award for the smartest player of 2013. He’s gotten paid by four different teams.

          • Rees Britton

Did you watch the game against the Redskins? It was horrifying!!! Then he gets released and then picked up by the bills and he couldn’t beat out some nobody rookie??? Not to forget he couldn’t beat Pryor (Yet again another player with no experience). Then he goes to GB and stinks it up there, in a system he should be familiar with. There is no other way to slice…. Flynn sucks and now 4 teams know if for sure.

  • Thomas Eric

Same with Kiko Alonso man deserves pro bowl and DROY and DPOY

    • Johnathan Wood

yes, and he got a lot of publicity this year for his play, which kind of removes him from consideration for a team of guys who play well and are overlooked.

    • ahrcshaw

Kiko and my Panther man DT Lotulelei are still on the list for DPOY, but even there Lotulelei did not get the publicity and he is a linemen which is like the end of the earth. No matter though they will get well paid for their job.

  • ahrcshaw

I guess rookies are never include in anything other then the rookie list. With the best D line in the NFL only one player get recognized. Go Panthers.

    • Johnathan Wood

These are supposed to be under the radar players, not just the best guys. Everybody talks about the Panthers’ DL.

      • ahrcshaw

I’ll give this one to you because the O line got a lot of deserving praise, but it was more about the front 7 and only two of the 7 got name praise and that was Keuchly, and the Kraken.
