Tracy McGrady to play for Sugar Land Skeeters?

Tracy McGrady was once the most feared scorer in the NBA.

Twice McGrady led the league in scoring, both while a member of the Orlando Magic and he was named to the All-Star team seven times.

The 34-year old McGrady spent last season with the San Antonio Spurs, but injuries finally caught up to him and McGrady retired from the NBA.

On Friday night, ESPN analyst Jeff Van Gundy said that he believed McGrady was pursuing a Minor League Baseball career.

McGrady was reportedly an excellent pitcher, who could throw in the 90’s.

On Monday, the Sugar Land Skeeters released a statement concerning McGrady and his baseball career.

“Tracy McGrady is one of the most elite athletes of this era and we appreciate his interest in pursuing a life-long dream with the Sugar Land Skeeters and the Atlantic League. While the Atlantic League is considered the highest level of baseball outside of Major League Baseball, McGrady has demonstrated skill, determination and diligence during his training program at Constellation Field. We look forward to monitoring his progress.”

The Skeeters, are, of course, the team that Roger Clemens pitched for in 2012, meaning this is likely just another ploy by the Skeeters to draw in fans.
