In years past, the lowly Charlotte Bobcats were typically sellers when the trade deadline rolled around, but the team is starting to transform itself into a contender in the utterly weak Eastern Conference and are clinging to playoff hopes. It’s not often that Charlotte gets this involved in the playoff hunt which is why they’re going all-in on their pursuit of a deep run in the postseason.

According to Alex Kennedy of Basketball Insiders, the Bobcats are going to be active buyers at the trade deadline and are expected to be on the phone constantly, trying to make a deal happen.

"The Bobcats are also buyers as the Feb. 20 trade deadline approaches, according to league sources. Rival executives have said that Charlotte has been actively working the phones for weeks, looking for potential trades that would allow them to bolster their roster for a playoff push."

Right now, the Bobcats are clinging to the eighth seed in the east and are holding a two game lead over the Detroit Pistons. If Detroit continues to struggle, the Bobcats will continue to control the final seed in the east and may even move up a bit.

Acquiring someone productive at the deadline could be huge for Charlotte and their playoff chances, which is something we’re not used to hearing.
