The New York Knicks have been getting laughed out of the room by virtually everyone when it comes to their chances of keeping impending free agent Carmelo Anthony, but it appears that their chances are much better than we all thought. According to ESPNNewYork, the Knicks may be able to not only keep Melo, but get him to sign for less money if it means the team will be contenders.

Per Ian Begley of ESPNNewYork.com:

"“Any opportunity I have to build that up in New York, I’d do it. I told people all the time, always say, if it takes me taking a pay cut, I’ll be the first one on (Knicks owner) Mr. [James] Dolan’s steps saying: ‘Take my money and let’s build something strong over here.”’"

Of course, Melo could change his mind but the fact that he seems open to taking less money in New York if it means winning championship is encouraging. There’s still a lot of time before Melo opts-out of his contract, but it’s starting to look more and more likely that Melo stays with the Knicks.
