Saints’ Will Smith prefers to play defensive end in 4-3

New Orleans Saints linebacker Will Smith is set to test the waters in free agency after being released by the team that drafted him. As he talks to teams about a potential new home, one thing he might be considering is their defensive scheme. He prefers to play defensive end in a 4-3 scheme than outside linebacker in a 3-4 scheme.
“I think I’m at heart a 4-3 defensive end,” Smith told NFL Network, via the New Orleans Times-Picayune. “That’s something I would like to play. But if I go to a team that requires me to play outside linebacker, I’m cool with that too.”
He also says he is ready to bounce back from his ACL injury in 2013.
“I had a whole year off with the ACL injury and I’m just about 100 percent,” Smith said. “I’m just going to continue to work and get picked up with a team and looking forward to having a great 2014 season.”
