Chivas USA defeat Colorado Rapids in Las Vegas ProSoccer Challenge

Wilmer Cabrera’s Chivas USA put it all together in Las Vegas, Nev. and defeated the Colorado Rapids, 2-1, in the Las Vegas ProSoccer Challenge at Sam Boyd Stadium. Down 1-0 after 16 minutes thanks to a goal from Deshorn Brown, Erick “Cubo” Torres equalized off a penalty in the 19th minute. Then Adolfo Bautista scored another pentlaty in the 83rd minute of play to seal the deal.

“I leave happy, mainly because of the team functionality and I’m even more happy because I was able to score,” Torres told CDChivasUSA’s Olivia Cervantes after the match. “It always fills you with pride and motivation that this many people are watching over you, that they’re supporting Chivas USA. It motivates you to keep working, and see that they’re waiting to hear from you.

“Now we have a few days together. It’s two weeks in which we’re going to be living together now that we’re going to have a few games. We’re thinking about the first game, which is local, at home. Our mind is placed on this match and we’re working on starting off on the right foot.”

The Goats will now head to Tucson, Ariz. to take part in the Desert Diamond Cup. Chivas USA take on FC Tucson on Wednesday and then play the New England Revolution on Saturday. Chivas will then take on Colorado again on Feb. 26 and wrap their tournament run with a placement match on Mar. 1.
