In the White vs. Blue game, Bruce Arena’s Los Angeles Galaxy first team shut out Curt Onalfo’s LA Galaxy II, 3-0, at StubHub Center in Carson, Calif. on Saturday. Robbie Keane scored a brace in the 2nd and 24th minutes, the latter goal coming off a penalty. Samuel added to the tally in the 68th minute on a sequence from Landon Donovan and Keane.

“We were pretty aware of what we were trying to get out of the game, but I thought [LA Galaxy II] played very well,” said Arena to LAGalaxy.com’s Adam Serrano. “I was very impressed with them. [Galaxy II head coach Curt Onalfo] has a good group to build a team from.

“We were okay on the night. It wasn’t anything great. We weren’t as sharp as we needed to be due to some mental lapses. We could have been better; I thought they did better than us tonight.”

“Tonight I felt very strong. I felt as though I could have played longer, but we had to stick to the schedule. It was a good run out for me today,” Keane added. “[Meanwhile] for these younger players [with LA Galaxy II], it’s a bit of a learning curve for them, but I thought that they did very well, especially when you think that [LA Galaxy Technical Director Jovan Kirovski] put this team together in the last month or so.”

“The game was awesome. We had great fan support which was really fun to see. I was just disappointed that we couldn’t give the fans a goal or two so we could have made it a closer game on the scoresheet,” said Onalfo. “I think that they saw two good teams playing, but it would have been nicer to have a goal. It’s a great step in the right direction for our club and something that we’re going to look forward to every year.”

“I think that it was great. Hopefully it becomes a real fun tradition. It’s great for those guys and it’s great for our fans,” Donovan concluded.

With preseason concluded, the Los Angeles Galaxy prepare for their next match, the Mar. 8 season opener against Real Salt Lake at the StubHub Center. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. PT/10:30 p.m. ET. As for La Galaxy II, they open up their season on Mar. 22 against the now-renamed Orange County Blues at the StubHub Center’s Track Stadium. Kickoff for that match is also scheduled for 7:30 p.m. PT/10:30 p.m. ET.
