The NFL has been looking at ways to make the playoffs more exciting, as the most popular game in America always see room for improvements. One of the most rustic way to alter playoff excitement is to let more teams in — literal wild cards — and that seems closer to happening than ever.

According to The Washington Post, there is a ton of momentum at the Owner’s Meetings for playoff expansion and it could get approved in the very near future.

Per The Post:

"“I think there’s a lot of momentum for it,” one source said. “I don’t know for sure if the votes are there yet [among the owners] or not. But there is momentum. A lot of people seem in favor of it.”"

That’s not definitive that the votes will be had to approve expansion, but it seems an almost inevitable amendment to the game at this point. Baseball, one of the most hardline and unwilling professional leagues ever, expanded their playoff system which means the progressive NFL is almost a lock to do the same.
