NFL Rumors: Oakland Raiders interested in Jared Allen?

Veteran defensive end Jared Allen will be testing the free agent market this year after spending the last six seasons wearing a Minnesota Vikings uniform.

The 31 year old two time sack leader will definitely receive a lot of interest this off-season. Almost every defensive coordinator who has a job in this league will or should want Allen on their team. I mean, who wouldn’t want to have this guy making huge plays for you?

Now according to ESPN’s Paul Gutierrez, he believes that the Oakland Raiders could end up showing interest in the former fourth round draft pick out of Idaho State.

Allen will be turning 32 years old at the very beginning of April, so he’s getting up there in age. Although he’s getting up there in age, his production hasn’t really changed. Yes he recorded 22 sacks back in 2011, but he’s still kept his numbers above 11 when it comes to that category.

He finished the year with 11.5 sacks, 52 combined tackles in what could have been his final season with the Minnesota Vikings.

Where do you see Jared Allen landing this off-season? Sound off in the comment section below.

I don’t see it. Not a long term solution for a rebuilding team. If the Raiders do not solve the QB question, they will not be in the playoffs for two or three years and Allen will be 34 or 35. Remember the name Richard Seymour?

    • Rob Jimenez

We need to solidify our offensive line before we can protect a quality qb. If we don’t we’ll risk him getting shell shocked

      • Angel

        Read my reply to Bob.

    • Angel

Yes I remember. His last season was crap, he only played a handful of games and was unproductive. The year before that he was good, remember him making a key field goal block against the freakin Chargers? Jared Allen can be signed. You’re making it seem as if we get Allen we are unable to sign er draft a QB. And besides, I don’t see ANY of these QB’s ready for a re-building franchise either.

    • erik

Remember rich gannon my fav,but he wasnt hot stuff till he got to the raiders via free agency, j allen can sign, vick could fill the spot if the draft doesnt provide raw talent there, besides hes the only qb ready to take the snaps besides bridgewater,i personally like david carr but not sure whats going to happen

  • Angel

Who cares about his age… He ain’t human. If Jared Allen gets inked by Oakland we are competitive, that’s it. Take away JJ Watt from Houston and look what they’d look like. I’m crossing my fingers for this one..

    • David Alejandro Miniel

You’re right, this man isn’t human. But that doesn’t stop general managers won’t want to invest a lot of money into someone who may not have more than one or two seasons left in him. But I think Allen is going to be sticking around for at least another four.

      • Angel

Exactly, and I’ve been hoping since last season when I first heard he was going to be a UFA.

        • David Alejandro Miniel

Thank you for being active on this article!

          • Angel

No, thank you dude for the topic. Good to hear something else beside Manziel, Sam and Clowney.

          • David Alejandro Miniel

I’m sure Jared’s name will be tossed around quite a bit. He’s the biggest name on the market in my opinion.

          • Angel

Jimmy Graham. We’ll see about the franchise tag and his “appeal”. Considering the cap being raised, such a disappointment for us. Got wonder the what if’s………

          • David Alejandro Miniel

My bad, I meant defensive name*

  • Kevin Lurker

We need to stay young. Orakpo is a better option for the future.

    • David Alejandro Miniel

I agree, but could he stay healthy? Allen hasn’t missed a game in six years. Only missed a total of three in his 10 year career.

      • Kevin Lurker

That is very true about Allen. He comes hard every play.

        • David Alejandro Miniel

This man is the definition of a hard worker.

  • Nick Homer

Here comes a week of smokescreens. Notice the Raiders haven’t been linked to A.Verner? Day 1 signing!

    • Bob

Honestly, I would like to see the Raders get one name player in their prime.

      • Angel

        Me too.

        • Seattle Raider

I agree Angel, about the D, I don’t believe Schaub or Freeman are the long term answer ( although if on plays well enough….) I will be surprised if we draft QB at #5, ( maybe trade down and grab Carr. ) So, I personally see a vet in next year. And I’m hearing a lot of chatter about the Raiders signing Jacoby Jones. So, why not Schuab.?

      • Seattle Raider

They will, too much money not to. I believe they will try to buy a defense, to keep games close. Then bring in a vet QB (M. Schuab, or J. Freeman) to manage games like a R. Wilson. It is a copy cat league after all. This team will look more like a real team. But, the Raider have a brutal schedule, so wins will be earned.

  • Demarkus Tramail Swan

Allen wants to win, NO FA IN THEIR RIGHT MIND BELIEVES THAT WILL HAPPEN IN OAKLAND. No, neither Orakpo or Allen will end up here, Raiders will get UDFAs & lower -tier FA’s.

    • Angel

Right. Keep hoping that. Cause no players WANT money. Hella dumb. “Get money bruh. We eatin” is what they’ll be sayin when they wearin that black and silver breh.

      • jose pizana

I’m tired of all the negative talks bout da nation. Everyone has there opinion bout who to Draft & all ufa that they believe won’t sign with da silver & black. We got the $ and every football player knows who da raider nation is. Commitment to excellence Al Davis is, was, and will continue to be one of the best franchise’s in football history & if they don’t wanna come play for Oakland then screw em. We don’t need em. Like RM said that he wants players that want to be Raiders. Raider Nation will be back to Raiders of old & if who ever is not will regret it. R8der4life

        • Rees Britton

All this guy does is trash the raiders and then act like he is some huge fan… Apparently he knows every free agent and their feelings towards the raiders.

          • jose pizana

I’ve been, am, & will continue to be a raider fan till da day I die. Have been since I was 7yrs old. (Now 37). Never have I lost faith in my beloved Raiders & never will. If ur not a Raider fan then what r u doing in our team page. RM will get this thing turned around. He will make all the right decisions threw free agency & draft.

    • Rees Britton

Here you go again… a couple more weeks and you will be eating crow!

  • erik

I hope jared allen would want to sign with the raiders i have him down as the best free agent pick up possible,id like vick to, if we dont draft a rookie qb in the first round, then build the o-line use free agent for d# sign woodson houston and veldheer, i see mckenzie strategy is focusing on offensive needs most oline and qb if we pick up vick j allen then you can draft sammy watkins for the vet qb then draft oline

  • Patrick

Unless you can magically get a proven QB that makes you instantly better. Raiders need a pass rush to neutralize the opponent QB. For example Manning, Rivers and Smith. Pass rush should be a Major Major priority for us!
