The Oakland Raiders have been just an awful football team ever since they got roasted in the Super Bowl back 2002 by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Since then the team has cycled through head coaches, cycled through starting quarterbacks and have only moved forward slightly.

But a different kind of move may be coming soon as fans in Portland have started a Change.org petition to get the lowly Raiders to dump the Bay Area, move out of Oakland and make Portland their new home.

Per the Change.org petition:

"“Bringing an NFL team to Oregon would dramatically increase the footprint of this state, bring tax revenue, create jobs and create a multi-use venue that would increase tourism. Portland is the nation’s largest metropolitan area that is served by only one of the Big Three Major League sports organizations,”"

It’ll take a lot more than a petition to move an NFL franchise, but it does at the very least plant the idea in our minds. The Raiders have moved in the past — albeit not that far from Oakland — and moving again isn’t out of the question.

There are lingering questions about the stadium situation with the Raiders and a strong push by Portland fans could lead to relocation proposals and an eventual move.

All of this would be years away from happening and is extremely unlikely, but the Pacific Northwest is becoming the hippest market in the country and the NFL doubling up there isn’t that crazy to think about.
