Once the Boston Celtics decided to trade swingman Paul Pierce and power forward Kevin Garnett to the Brooklyn Nets, it was obvious they would be rebuilding and would likely turn their attention to the 2014 NBA Draft.

The Celtics, who are currently tied with the Utah Jazz with the league’s fourth worst record at 22-45, will be in the mix to select one of the top players in the draft.

The Celtics are very high on Arizona Wildcats’ forward Aaron Gordon, according to Chad Ford of ESPN.com.

"The Celtics like Parker, Wiggins and Embiid a lot. But they are also fans of Arizona’s Aaron Gordon, who is one of the best athletes in the draft. He’s not as polished offensively, but he’s one of those players who does a little bit of everything and impacts the game on both ends of the floor."

Gordon, a 6’9, 225-pound freshman, averaged 12.1 points, 7.8 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game for the Wildcats this season.

The very popular NBA Draft website, Draft Express, currently projects Gordon to be selected by the Denver Nuggets with the eighth overall pick. In that mock draft, the Celtics, who are currently projected to pick fourth, are predicted to take Kentucky Wildcats’ power forward Julius Randle.
