Before the Oklahoma State Cowboys got set to take on the Gonzaga Bulldogs in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday afternoon, they received a bit of good news.

3-star point guard Tyree Griffin gave his pledge to the Cowboys.

The 5’9, 165-pound Griffin attends Landry-Walker High School in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Griffin wasn’t highly recruited so he jumped on the Cowboys’ offer.

“I think this is really good for me,” Griffin told Andrew Lopez of The New Orleans Times Picayune. “I don’t think anybody thought that I would have an offer like this because of my size.”

The Cowboys are likely going to be in dire need of a point guard. Stevie Clark was dismissed from the team earlier this season and star Marcus Smart will almost certainly declare for the NBA Draft.

Griffin is considered the 64th best point guard prospect, the sixth best overall prospect in the state of Louisiana and the 327th best overall prospect in the class of 2014, according to 24/7 Sports’ composite rankings.

Griffin was previously committed to the UTEP Miners.
