The Detroit Lions are in a nice position to pick up a top prospect for Jim Caldwell to kick off his tenure as head coach with, but we shouldn’t expect the Lions to be reaching for need or reaching for names. While there will undoubedtly be some intriguing names on the board when the Lions go on the clock, Mike Rothstein of ESPN.com states that Detroit will be looking other places first before writing down Jake Matthews or Greg Robinson on their draft card.

"If Greg Robinson or Jake Matthews were still available at No. 10, perhaps they would consider it, but I don’t think either player will be there. Detroit’s main needs are still on the defense and if they have a chance to take an impact linebacker like, say, Anthony Barr, that is probably their smartest play."

Rothstein reports that the Lions are in a ‘best player available’ mood and won’t be trading up to get a guy and won’t be looking solely for need.

As he clearly stated, it’s not as though Robinson and Matthews won’t be intriguing options kicked around the War Room if they’re there, but they won’t be locks by any means.
