The New England Patriots are still looking at offensive weapons to counter the defensive attack the Denver Broncos loaded up on in free agency but Bill Belichick hasn’t forgotten about his needs on defense and that’s why defensive end Will Smith is on his way to visit Foxborough this week.

Smith was cut this offseason by the New Orleans Saints as they tear up the cushions and peel back the carpet looking for spare change to throw at Jimmy Graham. He’s been drawing mild interest but appears to be ready to sign as the third free agency wave begins to build.

The Patriots needs all the help they can get on defense after losing Aqib Talib and Brandon Spikes to free agency and while neither play the defensive line, the edge rushing position is one that the Patriots needed badly in 2013 anyways.

Smith would likely be a situational pass rusher and could even split out to being a linebacker, but he’s veteran talent the Patriots will want to look into and clearly are.
