Ed Dickson meeting with Panthers; expected to sign

On Wednesday afternoon, news surfaced that free agent tight end Ed Dickson would be traveling to Charlotte for a meeting with the Carolina Panthers. The news comes from none other than, well, Ed Dickson.

The Panthers are very short on receiving options for the upcoming season after parting ways with veteran wide receiver Steve Smith earlier in the offseason, so Dickson would give them a reliable pass catching target underneath and provide Cam Newton with a safety net if the team’s receivers are unable to get open.

While Dickson is on his way to visit with the Panthers, a report from Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun stated that Dickson is expected to sign with the team during his visit.

It is Dickson’s first official free agency visit.

I suspected this type of move was coming. Since the Panthers FO is unable to add a star wr, add plenty of big targets with good hands. Cams best passing numbers came when he worked out of 2 TE sets his rookie year. Now he’s more mature, makes better decisions, and he’s more accurate. Dickson should be an upgrade over Shockey. I dont think Gettleman thinks the same way I do, but now if they were to pull the trigger on Brandin Cooks @ 28 id be less concerned with his size. Im pretty excited about this move, hope it happens
