The future of Jameer Nelson in Orlando is very uncertain. While it would appear that the rebuilding Magic are best served by cutting Nelson loose and saving money, he’s not a lock to be cut this offseason and could still return to the team in 2014-15.

Per the Orlando Sentinel:

"If the Magic waive him before July 15, the team would owe him only $2 million instead of $8 million.A league source said the Magic haven’t made a decision on Nelson’s future."

Nelson still has one year left on his contract with the Magic which means they’d have to release him over the summer on their own will.

That’s not a certainty to happen though as the Magic will have at least two rookies in their starting lineup next season and a second year player in Victor Oladipo.

Keeping Nelson may not be cheap but he has a long history with the team — a positive one, at that — and may provide veteran assistance a young team could desperately need.
