The New York Knicks failed to make the playoffs this year and contributed to NBA history in the process. But beyond the trivial fact that the Knicks, Lakers and Celtics all missed the playoffs for the first time in the history of basketball, the Knicks are far more concerned with their future than they are with the past.

Part of looking ahead to the future may mean eradicating elements of the past and that’s why there is so much talk about what the Knicks will do with head coach Mike Woodson. According to ESPN’s Marc Stein, Woodson is bracing for the worst.

This has been the expectation all year long but there has been surprisingly little movement on the matter. If Woodson had a dime for every report that surfaced claiming he was being fired, the man would never have to work again in his life.

But it seems that the time for him to no longer work for the Knicks may be nearing and the team will have to fill his seat quickly. With Carmelo Anthony’s contract to deal with and other free agent matter to attend to, the last thing the Knicks need is to be bogged down in a coaching search that sets them back before they can even begin to rebuild.
