Many believe that veteran quarterback Michael Vick will emerge from training camp as the New York Jets starter over Geno Smith, but that won’t come without the team giving Smith every possible opportunity to come away with the job.

According to recently signed running back Chris Johnson, the team has told him that the starting quarterback competition will be wide open.

“They said those two will battle it out in camp and may the best man win,” said Johnson, via ESPN New York.

It would be a surprise if Smith was able to emerge as the starter following his struggles as a rookie and the fact that the Jets doubted him enough to bring in Vick to compete.

However, if he can take some big leaps and strides during the offseason, the job could be his for the taking.

In typical New York fashion, the Jets will be one of the league’s most intriguing teams leading up to the regular season opener.
