It is always a difficult thing when personal battles creep into the public and that’s what has happened with Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson who filed for divorce from his wife Ashton, whom he married in January of 2012.

The Seahawks released a statement with Wilson’s consent saying, “I have made the difficult decision to file for divorce. Clearly, decisions like these don’t come easy. Ashton and I respectfully ask for prayers, understanding and privacy during this difficult time. Moving forward, I will have no further comment on this personal matter.”

The two met in high school and attented NC State together. Ashton was with Wilson when he received the phone call from the Seahawks notifying him they were drafting him in the third round of the 2012 NFL draft, and became a viral sensation for her reaction.
