The Denver Broncos have picked up the fifth-year option on outside linebacker Von Miller, according to Mike Klis of of the Denver Post and later confirmed by NFL Network’s Albert Breer.

Miller, taken with the second pick in the 2011 draft was the AP Defensive Rookie of the Year, is a two-time Pro Bowler and was named to the 2012 All-Pro team, but was suspended for the first six games of 2013 after violating the NFL’s substance-abuse policy and had his season ended prematurely with an ACL tear in late December.

With 35 career sacks in 40 games, Miller is one of the best pass-rushers in the NFL and with DeMarcus Ware signed this offseason to line up opposite Miller in 2014, the Broncos should have one of the best sets of sack artists in the league.

Picking up the option was just a formality at this point as one the best defenders in the league who will bein line for a lucrative extension if he returns to the form he displayed his first two seasons in the league.
