The Oklahoman ran a headline that read “Mr. Unreliable” with a picture of superstar and MVP candidate Kevin Durant, and it has raised a lot of eye brows. Durant is currently averaging 28 points per game for the Oklahoma City Thunder in their series against the Memphis Grizzlies, which they trail 3-2.

Now The Oklahoman has apologized for the headline.

From Mike Sherman of The Oklahoman:

"We take great pride in our headlines about big sporting events and news in Oklahoma. Thursday’s headline in The Oklahoman on Kevin Durant’s performance in the Memphis series missed the mark. The words were overstated and unduly harsh. The headline and presentation left the impression that we were commenting on Durant’s season, career or even character. We were not. We were referring only to the Memphis series. The fact the headline and presentation left that impression with so many readers is proof that we failed."

Still, averaging 28 points a game in the playoffs for the Thunder isn’t exactly shabby. Even if he was 10-of-24 shooting, Durant can’t be labeled as Mr. Unreliable, with a 40 percent shooting average in the series. He is playing a remarkable 47.8 minutes per game, maybe they should run a piece about who could step up to stop putting all of the Thunder’s hopes squarely on Durant’s shoulders.
