The Golden State Warriors gave into whatever drama was brewing behind the scenes in Oakland and fired head coach Mark Jackson after two straight winning seasons. Despite the work he did to make the Dubs a team we want to watch — and not the boring mess ownership had made it before — Jackson is out of work but many believe it won’t be for long.

However, while he’s arguably the best head coaching free agent out there, he’s unlikely to get the gig on the other side of the country in New York. According to Frank Isola, the Knicks have yet to contact Jackson and it’s unlikely that they will.

It’s not all that surprising that the Knicks aren’t reaching out to Jackson as they seem to have their man in Steve Kerr ready to sign a contract. Jackson will find work again, and some might argue he’s a better option than Kerr is, but wherever he lands he’ll need a front office he can control and that’s not the case in New York with Phil Jackson.
