Fans create alternate Warriors logos if they drop ‘Golden State’
By Mike Dyce
The Golden State Warriors bought a new 12-acre plot of land in San Francisco for a new arena, and there has been some discussion as to whether or not they should drop “Golden State” in favor of the city.
“We’re very curious what our fans think of that,” Warriors president and CEO Rick Welts told Ramona Shelburne of ESPN.com. “I couldn’t imagine making that decision in the very near future, but we definitely want to see what our fans prefer.”
It’d be an interesting move, and of course isn’t necessarily going to happen just yet, but what if it did? How would it affect the team’s logo?
Well the folks over at 99designs, an online graphic design marketplace, are holding a San Francisco Warriors logo design contest. They’ve done it before with the New Orleans Pelicans when they changed names and held a contest about alternative logos for the Washington Redskins, if they were to change names.
The deadline for submissions is today, and then they’ll launch an online poll to get votes and determine a winner. Check out some of the early submissions below and let us know in the comments which you like and why.
