There were six quarterbacks selected in the draft this year before the Houston Texans decided to go ahead and take one themselves. After Blake Bortles, Johnny Manziel, Teddy Bridgewater, Derek Carr, Jimmy Garoppolo and Logan Thomas were all selected before him, Pittsburgh’s Tom Savage finally heard his name called when the Texans went on the clock with the No. 135th pick in the draft.

Savage isn’t a top quarterback prospect but he’s hardly a guy that no one expects to develop into at least a solid backup. He may not start in 2014 and it’s probably preferable if he didn’t, but the Texans have their franchise guy and can thrust him into a system where he can grow and possibly take over the reigns.

Houston may not be done taking quarterbacks either, but if they miss out the rest of the draft, they at least have their man in Tom Savage, who goes down in draft record as being selected before A.J. McCarron and Zach Mettenberger.
