Former Buffalo Bills first round pick Aaron Maybin retires at age 26

The “Aaron Maybin era” never become a thing in the NFL, but just five seasons after he was selected with the 11th overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, Maybin has called it a career at the young age of 26.

Maybin, who was last seen while playing for the Toronto Argonauts in the Canadian Football League (the team actually announced his retirement), hasn’t played in the NFL since 2012, and he is considered one of the bigger busts in recent NFL Draft memory. The former Penn State pass rusher began his career with six sacks as a rookie with the Bills in 2009, but after that point, he would never add another sack to his resume (over more than 30 games) and it was a quick exit from the league.

Maybin will likely be a cautionary tale for draft busts in the near future, and that is certainly a shame. However, it is a reminder that no amount of pure talent can make a player a success at the highest level of professional football, and in the wake of the recent draft class entering the league less than a week ago, they should all be told about Aaron Maybin.
