Former Alabama QB AJ McCarron took on a lot of the attention this past weekend as the 2014 NFL Draft was coming to a close, and not all in a good way. Some of that attention was brought on by comments made by McCarron himself as his stock continued to fall before being chosen by the Cincinnati Bengals in the fifth round.

On comment in particular had a lot of people talking. While on Sirius Radio, McCarron referenced that he “sacrificed a lot for Alabama” in his time there with head coach Nick Saban, including playing through some injuries that we all never knew about.

“A lot of people don’t realize I wasn’t healthy at Alabama. … I played through a lot of injuries, and we never leaked it because that’s just the way it is,” McCarron said.

Well recently on a stop during the Coaches Caravan, Saban addressed the remarks, and he doesn’t seem to know about any injuries that McCarron, he and the school were hiding, while at the same time talking up AJ a little more, as he has been already.

“Well, he never said any of those things to me,” Saban said. “All I know is he did a great job for us and he was a good leader on our team and a good person. I think sometimes people get characterized in the wrong way. I certainly think this was the case in some ways here. But we all have to be responsible for our own self-determination, too. And evaluate what we did that might have created that.”

There were a lot of people very unhappy with some of McCarron’s comments throughout the weekend, and even prior to the draft, but no matter what he says and what his old coach has to deny, Saban always seems to constantly fall behind McCarron when all is said and done and continue to sing his praises.
