It would appear that the Boston Celtics are indeed shopping for a point guard but they’re doing so not on the veteran free agent market but in the youthful NBA draft class. We’ve already heard about their mounting interest in Dante Exum, the Aussie sensation who is expected to be the first guard off the board, but the Celtics’ interest in a point guard is solidified with word that they’re also checking out Marcus Smart as well.

Now, as Sherrod points out, the Celtics aren’t just interviewing these two guards but that doesn’t mean it isn’t notable that a team with Rajon Rondo is bringing in multiple top point hard prospects.

What could happen is a scenario where the Celtics stay put at No. 6 overall in the draft and thusly miss out on Exum. That would still leave Marcus Smart on the board which is a scenario the Celtics are clearly preparing for. The only question is, are we dealing with a smoke and mirrors situation here or will we see Marcus Smart in Celtics green, preparing to take over for Rajon Rondo down the line?
