The Dallas Cowboys are still looking to beef up the defensive side of the ball and they continued that pursuit on Friday by signing free-agent defensive tackle Amobi Okoye to a two-year contract, according to ESPN.

When Okoye steps on the field for the Cowboys this year, it’ll be the first time that he does so in nearly two years. He missed the entire 2013 campaign with an undisclosed medical issue while still a member of the Chicago Bears.

Okoye was drafted in 2007 by the Houston Texans, where he instantly made an impact as a rookie. In that ’07 season, Okoye amassed 23 total tackles and 5.5 sacks in 16 games.

Overall, that would end up being the best season that he’d have as a professional until he joined the Chicago Bears in 2011, where he finished up with 18 tackles and four sacks.

Still, the fact of the matter is that the Cowboys were looking for more depth on the defensive front line, especially with the departure of DeMarcus Ware, and that’s exactly what they’ve been doing.

Also in the free agency period, the Cowboys were able to go out and sign another former Bears defensive tackle in Henry Melton, now providing a reunion with he and Okoye under their former Chicago defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli in Dallas.
