Although they signed Brandon LaFell away from the Carolina Panthers and re-signed their leading receiver, Julian Edelman, the New England Patriots are still in need of a wide receiver, yet did not address the position until the seventh-round of the 2014 NFL Draft when they selected former Michigan Wolverines’ standout Jeremy “Tiny” Gallon.

They did, however, add a receiver on Thursday.

According to Ken LaVicka of ESPN West Palm, the Patriots have invited former Tennessee Volunteers’ wide receiver Nu’Keese Richardson to camp.

"Richardson, who was kicked out of Tennessee during his freshman season for taking part in an attempted armed robbery, will travel to Foxboro on Thursday morning in advance of this weekend’s workouts. Richardson’s high school coach, Blaze Thompson, received a phone call from Patriots coaching staff assistant Michael Lombardi on Wednesday morning to inquire about his former pupil. Shortly after that call, the Patriots extended a mini-camp overture to the speedy wide receiver. The subject of one of Florida’s most dramatic recruitments, the Florida commit spurned Urban Meyer for Lane Kiffin and the Volunteers at the 11th hour of National Signing Day 20009. After his dismissal from Tennessee, Richardson spent time at Hampton, Coffeyville (KS), and Pikeville (KY)."

Richardson confirmed a trip to the northeast on twitter.

Richardson is a long shot to make the team, but is certainly a talent.
