While the NBA awaits the NBA Finals and 2014 NBA Draft, all of the current news is surrounding Minnesota power forward Kevin Love. According to sources and “his people”, Love wants out of Minnesota after years of mediocrity, hoping to land in a solid sized market that can compete for a championship upon arrival.

This has created a buzz around the basketball world and all anyone can speak on is when Kevin Love gets traded, where Love gets traded to, and what kinda package it would take to obtain him. The Minnesota Timberwolves hope to wait this out, with Love’s mind changing in the process, but it seems more and more likely that Love being out the door in Minnesota is a done deal unless they can pull of a big move that plants them into the playoff race.

So we’ve gathered what we think are the five best trade packages that would benefit the T’Wolves most moving forward.

Honorable Mentions

8. Cleveland Cavaliers: With David Griffin in as the general manager, the Cavaliers may be set for a new look. This means  looking to make a big splash that makes up for the mass of mistakes that occurred during the previous regiment. Of the eight teams featured in this post, the Cavaliers would have the least to offer. Dion Waiters, Anthony Bennett, and Tristan Thompson are solid players, but they’ve limited futures and that isn’t the kind of group you build your franchise around. Memphis’ 2015 1st round pick will land toward the back end of the draft and unless the odds are in their favor, the Cavaliers 2014 draft pick will be a mid-lottery pick.

7. Houston Rockets: Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports reported the Rockets planned to aggressively pursue Kevin Love. And looking at their roster, the Rockets have a few pieces that would intrigue the Wolves, Omer Asik, Terrence Jones, etc., but there is one problem going forward: Chandler Parsons contract situation. If acquired the Timberwolves would likely have to break the bank for Parsons. If not he’d be able to walk freely as he is an unrestricted free agent the summer of 2015. That’s a huge risk to take.

6. Golden State Warriors: Like the Houston Rockets, the Golden State Warriors have a nice centerpiece in Klay Thompson. He’s shown that he has a long future ahead of him in this league and would be the perfect complimentary piece alongside Ricky Rubio and Nikola Pekovic. But outside of Klay, there isn’t much value on the Warriors. Harrison Barnes showed to be a nice small forward of the future, but his sophomore year underwhelmed, and while Draymond Green has shown he’s the perfect role player, it’s unclear how team executives view him. He may not be enough to swing a trade such as this. Just getting he and Thompson wouldn’t be good enough. Their draft picks will be moot if Love is acquired as the transaction would propel the Warriors top tier of the Western Conference.
