If you missed the weirdest story in baseball yesterday, Miguel Olivo partially bit off the ear of teammate and one of the Dodgers top prospects, Alex Guerrero, during a Triple-A game. The two began scuffling in the dugout after Guerrero (SS) missed a tag after a throw from Olivo (C).

More from Los Angeles Dodgers

That scuffle may cost Guerrero 5 weeks of playing time according to a report by Jon Paul Morosi of Fox Sports.

Considering the Dodgers signed Guerrero, a Cuban defector, for $28 million in the offseason, I’m going to guess they are not going to take too kindly to Olivo’s actions. Guerreo had to have plastic surgery done following the incident.

"Guerrero underwent plastic surgery Monday as a result of the injury, Boras said. He could be out for up to five weeks, a source confirmed. – Bitten by Dodgers blues: Minor leaguer bites teammate’s ear – Jon Paul Morosi, Fox Sports"

What is yet to be seen here is whether Guerrero will press charges against his teammate, something that was discussed between him and the Salt Lake City Police Department. Also, there is no word yet on what the course of action will be from the Dodgers organization against Olivo.

The Dodgers organization released a statement yesterday.

"“The baseball operations department is aware of the altercation and is conducting an investigation into the matter. The organization does not condone this type of behavior and will have no further comment at this time.”"
