Baltimore Orioles first baseman Chris Davis put any questions about his power this season to rest. Davis hit three home runs in the Orioles 9-2 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates last night. It was Davis’ first three run home run game since 2012.

Davis has struggled this season, hitting only 3 home runs before last night and spending time on the disabled list. It was hard to imagine he’d match last year’s home run numbers, where he hit a career-high and MLB leading 53 home runs. However, in one night, he doubled his home run total for the season and hopes to be starting afresh going forward in 2014.

Before yesterday’s game, Davis told his wife he was ready for a new start to the season, according to Dan Connolly of The Baltimore Sun.

"“I told Jill, I’m just going to start over. I’m going to start the season over today,” Davis said. “And that’s kind of what I did.” – Dan Connolly, The Baltimore Sun"

Davis has had career years in 2012 and 2013. He’s arbitration eligible next season and will be looking to make a big impact prior to those negotiations and his pending free agency in 2016. Hitting three home runs in a game is a good way to get going.
