The Los Angeles Lakers were a mess this past season and they need to find a way to start turning rings around. They’re a franchise teetering on the brink, as a post-Jordan slump like the Bulls faced seems to be awaiting the Lakers in the post-Kobe years.

But Jordan’s Bulls teams were dominant in his final seasons in Chicago and the same can hardly be said for the Lakers teams that Kobe has been a part of as of late. But that could change this offseason when the front office makes pushes to get better now and win while they still can with Kobe Byrant.

According to NBA scribe Peter Vecsey, the Toronto Raptors may find it hard t re-sign guard Kyle Lowry which could open him up to the free agent market and the Los Angeles Lakers.

It’s hard to say just how much Lowry will command, but it’s likely that his salary will be rather significant given the solid season he turned in for the Raptors. There was talk of trading Lowry earlier in the season but those talks died out and resulted in no movement whatsoever.

Now the Raptors must address the situation again, only this time it’s a contractual thing rather than the team looking for trade partners.

If the Lakers land Lowry in the offseason, he’ll have more pressure on him than every before as any relatively big name free agent the Lakers rope in will be expected to save the franchise in 2014-15. Of course, there’s not guarantee that the Lakers will land Lowry as Steve Nash’s massive contract sort of throws a kink into their plans and it is yet to be seen if they’ll work things out in advance.
