Despite trading for Matt Schaub this offseason, the Oakland Raiders needed some depth at the quarterback position, as well as someone they could look toward to lead the offense in the future. With that, they selected Fresno State QB Derek Carr in the scround-round of the NFL draft recently, and on Wednesday they locked down a deal with their new signal-caller.

Following the news, Carr expressed to the team how happy he is that they were able to get a deal done and he can now get to work.

“I feel great. I’m excited. I’m excited that this part of it is over and now we can just get to work and focus on winning games and getting better every day,” Carr told Raiders.com.

At the moment, Carr is not expected to be the starter immediately in Oakland with head coach Dennis Allen giving a ringing endorsement to Schaub as the starter,

Still, especially given the dismal season that Schaub had last season in Houston, it’s not completely out of the realm of possibility that Carr could take over at some point this season and begin earning the money on this first contract.
